Backpacker Hostel Manchester

Ashton House Hostel in Manchester is best described as a little hidden treasure. Just about 10 minutes walk north of the city center, this place has a very modern, shiny interior that makes staying here very enjoyable. The Ashton House is Hotel and Backpacker accommodation at the same time. The biggest dorm room is HUGE with it’s 28 beds, but has a few smaller cabins that provide a bit more privacy. Most of the time the majority of beds seem to be empty anyway. The cleaning lady even makes up the dorm beds every morning – not really necessary, but for a hostel – wow! There’s a common room with seating, TV and a small kitchen where a free, very good breakfast is being served each morning. Choose from 6 different kinds of cereals, from fruits and jams for the toast, have an orange juice, milk, coffee or tee. But are *disposable* plates and cutlery really necessary? It would be better to have some proper cutlery and plates in the kitchen as there are none. Furthermore, the staff is very friendly and quite funny. Bathrooms are very clean too, but the men’s toilet needs urgent fixing – you can’t look the 2 doors (lock & light bulb) – big minus for this. The super-modern showers with RADIO & LIGHT are AMAZING, unfortunately not everything is working on there either, and the plastic walls are just as transparent as glass. Is this a matter of taste? Why not making it one big unisex bathroom then at least? Would certainly bring a bit more fun and life in this otherwise dull house. But that’s alright 😉
