Pink Papaya in Chimoio, being either most traveller’s first or last stop on their way to/from Zimbabwe, this little house just west of the Chimoio centre harks back to the good old days of backpacking. It’s small and rustic but with oodles of charm that doesn’t rely on modern gimmicks like WiFi & TV etc. Both of these are absent, but the rooms have so much character. There is a 10-bed dorm, a double room and a 3-bed family room – that’s it! All rooms share spick & span toilet and shower.
The house itself is kept shiny clean by the attentive staff. The mattresses are comfy and the linen fresh as the rooms are cleaned daily. The dorm is very spacious with bedside tables and even boasts its own gazebo sitting area. There is also a sitting/dining area outside in the slightly dilapidated back garden. The kitchen is for common use and has the basics. A kettle and a two-hob cooker – that’s about it. But there are plenty of choices to go out and eat no more than a 10 minute walk away.
The bus station is also just 5 minutes away, but this is a pretty quiet neighbourhood. The house is in a secure, gated plot and there is a security guard on duty at night. During the day, the two dogs keep the place safe.
