Mackay YHA (Larrikin Lodge) is a home away from home. It’s a very well run place – the owners are very friendly and helpful, they really care about their guests. The rooms and beds are clean and modern. The kitchen and common area are a little small, but that made it really cozy. They also offer a Platypus Safari with Jungle Johno’s minibus. Mackay itself is not touristy at all, there’s not really much to do here, but it has some real nice wild looking beaches that you can wander all by yourself – they are a little bit far though.
