Mariepskop View (formerly known as Blyde River Canyon Backpackers) is a neat, well-run guesthouse on the eastern side of the Blyde River Canyon near the town of Hoedspruit in the Limpopo province of South Africa. There are a number of A-frame huts with two or three single beds that house a family or double, as well as dorms for backpackers. Each hut has a free-standing fan which is much needed during the hot summer months. There is a large area on the grounds for campers who share the ablutions with the huts. There is free Wi-Fi here, but only outside the reception in the garden of the owner’s house. The garden is full of birds all day long. There is a swimming pool and a large camping area as well.
The toilets and showers are all common and clean. There is a very well equipped common kitchen too. The place is self-catering only, so bring enough food with you as there is only a small shop at the petrol station 4 km away. Difficult to reach by public transport, this place is ideal for drivers who want to access the Blyde River Dam, Moholoholo Endangered Species Rehabilitation Centre and Kruger National Park.
A good, clean option for those wanting to be closed to the attractions listed above, but the huts are a little hot and stuffy.
